The Reality Behind Interest Free Solar, Free Solar or Government Paid Solar

Lately we’ve been performing a number of installations and homeowners have asked how they can get free solar. That’s the golden question because online advertising often implies that you can either get free solar from the government or, that solar pays you money. This is rampant and unfortunately is misleading.

There is nothing further from the truth that a solar system will pay you cash, or at least that’s my experience. I’ve never had Ergon send a check and while we have great benefits in Australia, the government is not going to pay us for a solar installation. They have created incentives for homeowners to take up solar however.

The reality is that most people who do have a solar installation will enjoy a degree of subsidy) from their utility bills. In some cases, they can even earn a credit but unfortunately deceptive marketing has made it very confusing for most homeowners to take advantage of their entitled benefits. In this article I will show you how you can get and generate a cashflow surplus using a case study. That is you will pay less on solar than without it.

Firstly, solar works because you pay for energy independence, that is, we’d install a reliable and robust renewable energy system. Let’s call it a miniature energy generator. When we install panels on the rooftop of Cairns homes, the panels will capture the sunlight and in doing so the energy. Now rather than just the sunlight being lost, the energy from the sunlight is converted with the inverter into electricity that you can use. You may have heard of SolarEdge or Fronius – these are inverter manufacturers companies. The inverters convert the energy into the type supplied to you by the electricity companies, which our utilities can use. This saves you the need to draw from the grid.

Now living in Cairns brings us a great climate, spectacular views and a fantastic community. In fact, on average, we benefit from over half a day of sunlight throughout the year. That said, I’m sure you, as I have, noticed a distinct lack of competition for energy providers. This means that the existing energy retailers are able to charge an exorbitant price to provide us with electricity while offering paltry feed-in-tariffs. Then there is the worst part of rising electricity costs. So, where’s the benefit of going solar?

With a roof top energy generator on your Cairns home, rather than drawing from the grid and being exposed to these costs, you produce electricity and avoid paying the retailer during the day. (Except when your consumption exceeds production.) Any excess electricity you do not consume is fed back into the grid and is credited to you.

As your rooftop electric generator works day in and day out, your house also becomes more attractive. There are a number of articles, where if you are looking to sell your house, the addition of a solar installation has attracted a premium price, or a shorter period on the market. Either way, it’s a win for you!

But the reality is that going solar does not work for everybody and we’re mindful of that. The best way to check whether or not you can benefit from solar, is to get a quote. You can do this below by getting an energy audit.

Now to give you an example of where one might benefit from solar, let’s review a case study. Assuming you are paying at least $150 a month on utility, we can offer many homeowners a fully installed solar PV system for less than $5 a day for 5 years.

After 5 years you pay nothing but will still benefit for decades, great right? The panels are warranted for 25 years and our inverters generally have a 10-year warranty. And in some instances, warranties can be extended for 25 years.

Instead of getting cash, think about solar helping you become cash flow positive. You will spend less on solar than if you would normally pay your electricity bill. This is because homeowners who take advantage of solar will benefit from higher prices of government incentives called the STC certificates. These are used to subsidise solar costs. Unfortunately, STC certificates decrease in value every year so if you’re keen to get solar, it’s wise to make a decision on whether it suits your needs now.

Now assuming that you are looking to finance your solar installation, we have a green financing available which is interest-free and payable over 5 years. To be clear, this is not some unbranded, unknown and untested solar panels or inverters. We use Bloomberg Tier 1 panels from well supported, proven and very popular solar suppliers.

To give you an example of such a system, we can offer 8kW of Tier 1 solar panels, a Fronius single phase inverter and associated smart energy metre which allows you to check on the performance of your inverter in real time. And no, we’re not going to leave you hanging there with solar equipment in boxes.  The includes the installation, commission, ready for approval from Ergon.

A system of this size will see you 40kWh of electricity every day. More than enough for many households.  But because we perform installations so frequently, we’re able to negotiate with our suppliers to perform the installation for a total of $7,790. It is –

  • Fully financed,
  • $0 down,
  • Interest-free
  • Paid over 60 months. (That’s $31 a week.  Or about $4.50 a day.)

What’d you get the last time you paid $4.50? I’m willing to bet that coffee won’t liberate you as much as your new solar installation will.

To get started and benefit from –

  • Decades of subsidised electricity,
  • Cashflow positive,
  • Higher value STC certificates/rebate,
  • Energy Independence
